The Gathering of Cheesemakers
Time: Ongoing throughout festival

​Find this gathering of cheesemakers in the Meadow Area. Many of the regions best cheesemakers and other local  artisan food producers will be setup to sample and sell their wide variety of cheeses, meats, bread, mustards, jams, gelato, goat milk and more!


Ongoing  Family Fun

NEW THIS YEAR - Family Tent - Children & their parents can try their hand at making butter, challenge each other at Tic-Tac-Cheese, join the Big Cheese word-search tournament, and even participate in a scavenger hunt. 


Kid Corral - learn about the animals that bring us milk for fabulous cheese!  We'll have kids and calves.

Workshops are FREE but have limited seating.  We encourage you to reserve your space .  If the workshop fills up you will be added to the waitlist and will receive an email letting you know that you're on the waitlist. 


Cheese: The Discovery of Cheese

TIME: 12:30 p.m. In the Event Center

Come to the event center by 12:25 to see if there are still seats available.

Cheesemonger Brenton Vasconcellos from 5 Walnut Cheese Bar, spends his time studying the science of cheese as well as its historical beginnings.  In this workshop you’ll learn about the components of milk, how culture played a role in the discovery of cheese and culture’s function in current-day cheese production.


Making Mozzarella at Home

Join Lindsey Menendez of Copper Cauldron Cheese Company as she gives you an overview of the process of making homemade mozzarella in the comfort of your own kitchen.


Home Cheese Making for the Hobbyist

TIME: 2:30 p.m.,  On the Main Stage

Meet Jim Barham who has been successfully making cheese at home for ten years. From Cheddar to Reblochon, he'll show you what you need — and what you don't need — to make great cheese at home .  There will be time for Q&A and Jim will also share  information on creating your own home cheese cave!


Charcuterie 101

Cured meats and fine cheeses are like peanut butter and jelly. In this overview of charcuterie, local expert Meredith Leigh will share the basics of preserving meats, and answer questions about origins, methodology, recipes for curing meats at home, and more.  Meredith Leigh is the Author of The Ethical Meat Handbookwhich will be for sale at the festival. You can also pre-order Meredith's newest book: Pure Charcuterie.

Battle of the Boards 2017 - You be the Judge of the Perfect Bite

Demo Tent
Are you ready to be the judge?  We have four local  cheese mongers ready to battle it out:

Ryan Skrabalak from Westgate EarthFare
Amanda Shamblin from Bottles & Boards
Lauren Surman - Whole Foods  Market
Brenton Vasconcellos - 5 Walnut Cheese Bar

The mongers will demonstrate their board creations in the Demo tent.  At 3 p.m. the judging begins - appearance, composition, knowledge, board concept.  Mongers will be there for the interview and will choose their "perfect bite" from their board for the judges to taste.   Think you can be the judge?  Buy your judge ticket and come to the Demo tent to join other judges to make the final decision.  The winner will be announced on the main stage at 3:45 pm.

COMPETITIOns 2017

Cookin' with Cheese 2017
TIME: 1 - 3 p.m.

Event Tent
Join us as WNC Cheese Trail member restaurants put forward their best in this Cookin' with Cheese competition.  Some of our competitors include Ambrozia, Corner Kitchen Catering, Hickory Nut Gap Farm  and Strada Italiano.  Be  part of the judging by purchasing a tasting ticket.  The People's Choice winner will be announced at 3:45 p.m.  Contest runs from 1–3 pm . Judges do not have to be present the entire time of the contest but need to cast their votes before 3 p.m.

Stop by the booth to see if we have any remaining tasting tickets.

Pure Charcuterie makes a case for meat preservation not only as a means of artistic expression and flavorful eating, but also as a form of activism.

The pairings will be held in the Highland Brewery Event Center and are ticketed events.  Each pairing is $10.   You must purchase an entrance ticket to participate in the pairing events.  All pairings are SOLD OUT.

Join us as we pair beers fromHighland Brewing with cheeses from the WNC Cheese Trail.  We'll have expert brewers and cheese specialists on hand to guide us through the pairing.
